330103-00-09-10-02-05 ABB’s net zero emissions targets for 2030 and 2050 have been endorsed by the Science Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi)
ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and has set a science-based net zero emission target that meets the SBTi net Zero standard
Certification by the SBTi demonstrates that ABB’s carbon reduction targets are in line with the latest climate science standards and consistent with the requirements of the Paris Agreement
ABB applauds the Scientific Carbon Target Initiative’s (SBTi) approval of its emission reduction targets. ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and to this end has submitted to the SBTi new Range I, II and III carbon reduction targets for 2030 and 2050. The SBTi’s endorsement of ABB’s science-based emission reduction targets further demonstrates that ABB’s emission reduction strategy is in line with the Paris Agreement.
The SBTi approved the following objectives for ABB:
01 Short-term Goals (up to 2030)
Reduce ABB’s CO2 equivalent emissions in Scope 1 and330103-00-09-10-02-05 Scope 2 by 80% from 2019
Reduce ABB’s emissions in Scope 3 by 25% by 2022
02 Long-term Goal (by 2050)
Reduce ABB’s CO2 equivalent emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 100% from 2019
Reduce ABB’s emissions in Scope 3 by 90% by 2022
To achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050
Anke Hampel, Head of Sustainability at ABB, said:
As a technology leader in electrical and automation, ABB is one of the core forces driving the energy transition. We are committed to ABB’s emission reduction target of 80% and 100% of ABB’s Scope I and Scope II emissions by 2030 and 2050, respectively, compared to the 2019 baseline; So far, we have managed to reduce our carbon emissions by 76%. In line with the new Scope 3 targets, we will continue to support our customers in scaling up renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, increasing electrification and reducing emissions, while actively strengthening synergies with up330103-00-09-10-02-05 stream and downstream partners in the area of decarbonisation. ABB’s new targets have been endorsed by the SBTi, demonstrating that our targets and methods are in line with the latest climate science standards.
The Science-based Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi) Net Zero Standard is an international framework for companies to set net zero targets based on climate science, providing guidance and tools for companies to set science-based net zero emissions targets.
