EEA-PAM-U1 ABB has partnered with Microsoft to integrate generative AI capabilities into industrial digital solutions for safer, smarter and more sustainable operations
The partnership aims to enable more intuitive user interaction with the ABB Ability™ Genix Industrial analytics and AI suite and its applications through the deployment of Copilot, further leveraging the value of linked data to improve efficiency and sustainability
ABB will leverage Microsoft Azure OpenAI services to further optimize ABB Ability™ Genix
Building on their long-standing relationship, ABB and Microsoft will integrate Azure OpenAI services into the ABB Ability™ Genix suite of industrial analytics and AI. The two companies will work to implement generative AI technologies to help industrial customers unlock hidden insights in operational data. Improved data collection and governance capabilities will significantly improve efficiency and productivity, enhance asset reliability and operational safety, reduce energy consumption and reduce environmental impact.
Genix Copilot
ABB will integrate generative AI into Genix platforms and applications through Azure OpenAI services, including large language models (LLMS) such as PGT-4, enabling code, image and text generation. When released, the new Genix Copilot app will enhance the user experience by providing intuitive functionality and streamliEEA-PAM-U1 ning linked data flows across processes and operations. Improve decision quality and increase productivity by providing real-time actionable insights to industry managers, functional specialists and shop floor engineers. Such insights have the potential to extend asset life cycles by up to 20% and reduce unplanned downtime by up to 60%.
In addition, the solution provides advanced monitoring and optimization insights into industrial greenhouse gas emissions and energy use to help customers achieve their sustainability and energy transition goals.
Genix Copilot also captures the experience of operational personnel, facilitates joint decision making across roles, and has a special focus on protecting data and cognitive security within the enterprise.
ABB Ability™ Genix is a comprehensive, modular industrial iot, analytics and AI platform that protects customers’ legacy investments while embedding industry-specific domain knowledge to drive business performance. Companies running Genix have seen operational cost savings of up to 40 percent, productivity gains of up to 30 percent, and energy efficiency and emissions optimizations of 25 percent. With the addition of generative AI capabilities, Genix is expected to further expand these benefits.
Rajesh Ramachandran, global chief Digital officer of ABB’s Process Automation business unit, said: “This is an important step in ABB’s strategic partnership with Microsoft to accelerate the pace of digital transformation in the industrial sector. We believe Genix Copilot will help industrial customers achieve their combined goals of sustEEA-PAM-U1 ainability, operational excellence and enhanced asset performance.” Expanding generative AI capabilities across ABB’s industrial digital solutions will lead customers to a new era of AI-enabled mass decision making.
Ralph Haupter, president of Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “We believe that modernising and scaling our data platforms is an important guarantee for long-term success. Leveraging advanced digital capabilities, such as Azure OpenAI services, will help empower ABB Genix to effectively manage linked data while driving digital transformation to drive improvement and continuous change.
Genix integrates data from enterprise operations (OT), information (IT) and engineering (ET) through automation to unlock the power of data and apply industrial AI to further enhance analytics and optimization capabilities. The platform scales seamlessly from asset to factory to enterprise, deploying across cloud, hybrid, edge or on-premises. It is designed to be secure and reliable and uses Microsoft Azure for integrated cloud connectivity and services
