8201-5-1 How it works
The circuit breaker is generally composed of a contact system, an arc extinguishing system, an operating mechanism, a release device, and a housing.

Its working principle mainly includes the following aspects:
Normal operation: Under normal conditions, the circuit breaker is used to turn on or off the circuit.
Short-circuit protection: When the circuit is short-circuited, the magnetic field generated by the large current will overcome the reaction spring, so that the release device pulls the operating mechanism to act, the switch is tripped instantaneously, and the circuit is cut off.
Overload protection: When the current is overloaded, the heat generation is intensified, resulting in the deformation of the bimetal sheet, pushing the mechanism to act, and making the switch trip. The higher the current, the shorter the operation time.
Electronic protection: Some electronic circuit breakers use transformers to collect the current size of each phase, compared with the set value, when the current is abnormal, the microprocessor sends a signal, so that the electronic release drives the operating mechanism.
Three, the main types and characteristics
Air circuit breaker: The use of air as the arc extinguishing medium, simple structure, low cost, high reliability, widely used in low voltage and medium voltage power system.
Vacuum circuit breaker: Using vacuum as arc extinguishing medium, good arc extinguishing effect, long life, easy maintenance, suitable for medium voltage and high voltage power system.

SF6 circuit breaker: using SF6 gas as the extinguishing medium, it has strong extinguishing ability, high short-circuit resistance and good reliability, and is widely used in high-voltage power systems such as transmission and substations.
Oil-immersed circuit breaker: using insulating oil as the extinguishing medium, strong extinguishing ability, high reliability, wide adaptability, suitable for high voltage and ultra-high voltage power system.
Gas circuit breaker: The use of gas as an arc extinguishing medium, good explosion resistance, adapt to harsh environment, widely used in a specific environment of the power system.
Solid circuit breaker: The use of solid materials as the arc extinguishing medium, environmental protection, miniaturization, high reliability, in the microgrid, solar photovoltaic and other fields have been widely used.
Intelligent circuit breaker: integrated electronic technology and communication technology, can realize the remote control and monitoring of circuit breakers, with remote control, fault diagnosis, data collection and other functions, widely used in smart grid and intelligent buildings and other fields.

Selection principles and precautions
When selecting a circuit breaker, the following factors need to be considered:
Rated current: Select the appropriate circuit breaker rated current value according to the rated current of the required protection circuit. Under normal circumstances, 1.25 times the rated current is used as the overload protection range.
Rated voltage: The rated voltage of the circuit breaker must match the voltage in the system to ensure that the circuit can be quickly disconnected in case of overcurrent or failure.
Number of poles: The number of poles of the circuit breaker should be the same as the internal connection of the system being protected. For example, a single-pole circuit breaker is used for a single power supply, and a bipolar or quadrupole circuit breaker is selected for a dual power supply.
