The GE Fanuc is used to expand the memory of the GE 772 and 771 cpus in the GE PLC. Memory modules can be used to extend the PCM memory reserved by the battery on the CPU or PCM, and do not require any additional slots that can be configured for data and program storage. The IC697MEM717 memory module has different storage capacities. Different storage capacity options include 64, 128, 256, and 512 KB of memory space. The IC697MEM717 memory module can be installed as a daughter board when it is located in the same slot as the module it serves. The memory on the motherboard complements the memory available on the baseboard. The IC697MEM717 memory module ensures that memory is maintained when the battery on the baseboard housing is powered off.

The IC697MEM717 memory module comes with a logic program memory, and the PLC CPU performs constant error checking as a background task. PCM error checking on storage memory continues during power cycles and during hard and soft resets. For CPU installations, technicians should use Windows programming software or use MS-DOS software to clear memory. For PCM installations, technicians should follow all instructions provided by the programmable coprocessor module. The IC697MEM717 memory module has a shelf life of 20 years at an optimal ambient temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, equivalent to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The module has a nominal memory retention time of 6 months without the application of power. The battery ensures that user memory is retained even when the power is disconnected, and keeps the calendar clock running and accurate even when the power is disconnected.
