The IC698CHS009, manufactured by GE Automation and Controls, is a front – or rear-mounted rack case with nine module slots. The rack is capable of accommodating a wide range of RX7i and 90-70 series modules and cpus. Each module connector on the rack backplane is 0.8 inches or 20.3 mm apart, and each slot can accommodate a single width module. Double-width modules each occupy two rack backplane slots. Slot 0 on the backplane is reserved for the power supply and slot 1 for the programmable logic controller CPU. The remaining backplane slots can be used in a variety of single – or double-width combinations.

The IC698CHS009 has the following features and functions: Slot detection of input/output modules, module addressing without DIP switches or jumpers; Automatic daisy-chain of interrupt acknowledgements and bus grant signals without slot jumpers; J2 connector with speeds up to 64 bits per cycle; RX7i power supply compatibility; Compatibility with cooling fans.

The RX7i rack is considered an “open device” and therefore must be installed in an IP54 secure housing. The dimensions of the rack are as follows: The height is 11.15 inches (283 mm). It is 12.6 inches (320 mm) wide. The depth is 7.25 inches (184 mm). If a cooling fan is to be installed, an additional 9 inches (23 cm) of space is required between the racks.

Cooling fans are required if the following modules are installed: IC698CPE020, IC698CRE020, and IC698PSA350. There are three types of cooling fan components available, each for a different power supply. The IC697ACC621 fan is used for 120 VAC, the IC697ACC624 fan for 240 VAC, and the IC697ACC644 fan for 24VDC.

To shield grounded RX7i modules and devices, ensure that both the top and bottom panel screws are securely attached to the housing. For 90-70 series modules and devices, the ground clamp will be in contact with the conductive guide rail when installed. For safe grounding, use AWG #12 wire to connect the studs mounted on the sides of the IC698CHS009 to the ground.

To reduce the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI), ensure that the power supply is securely installed by connecting the GND terminals on the power supply to the terminals on both sides of the rack using AWG #12 wires with ring terminals and star washers, and connecting the rack GND terminals to ground.
