The IC698CPE020, manufactured by GE Automation, is a CPU from the PACSystems RX7i family. It enables real-time machine control and communication with other rack modules via a standard VME backplane. Operation and control of the IC698CPE020 is done by a connected computer or an on-board three-position switch, which can be disabled if necessary.

The device features a 700MHz Pentium III floating point microprocessor. The standard execution speed for this processor is 0.14 milliseconds per 1000 Boolean contacts. 10 MB of volatile memory (RAM) and 10 MB of flash memory (NVRAM) are available. CMOS batteries are required to support volatile memory. Flash memory is non-volatile. RAM and NVRAM can be used for user data, programming configuration, storing symbolic variables, and any information related to registers. The operating system firmware is also stored in NVRAM. To update the firmware, simply connect the IC698CPE020 to your computer using the correct serial port and run the update software.

When installing, follow the steps outlined in the manual. Record the MAC address of the device. Power off the rack. Insert the IC698CPE020 into rack slot 1. Connect the device to an Ethernet LAN. The rack power supply is restored. Connect the CMOS battery.

The IC698CPE020 has three serial ports and two Ethernet ports. For Ethernet connections, 5 types of shielded or unshielded RJ-45 twisted pair cable and TCP/IP configuration are required. Supported serial ports include RS-232 and RS-485. The third serial port is the workstation manager port.

Some of the device’s features include support for 512 blocks, ladder and C programming, symbolic variable support, modification of test patterns, and the ability to monitor system data over the network. Note: When using Web monitoring, you can connect up to 16 Web and FTP servers.
