A motor control unit (MCU) is a product family of electronic motor control and protection devices with a fieldbus interface. Typically, the MCU is located in the motor starter and its primary task is to protect, control, and monitor the three-phase/single-phase AC motor and motor starter equipment. MCUS connect to other starter devices via digital and analog I/0, and to other MCUS and control systems via fieldbus interfaces. The MCU product range offers two device variants:
MCU1 is a basic low end motor controller for the protection, control and monitoring of motors and starting equipment.
MCU2 is a high-end motor controller device based on MCU1. The MCU2 provides more comprehensive motor and starter equipment protection, control and monitoring capabilities, in addition to a number of process control related functions.

Microcontroller consists of four parts:
Major unit
Current measuring unit
Voltage unit (for MCV2 only)

The substrate is a unit that is mechanically fixed to the drawer mounting track. All incoming and outgoing wires of the MCU (except the main current and PTC) are connected to the substrate. Both the main unit and the current measuring unit are plugged into the substrate.
Major unit

The main unit is the unit containing the electronic components of the motor control unit, and the main unit is plugged into the base plate.
Current measuring unit
The current measuring unit contains a current measuring transformer. The current measuring unit is plugged into the base plate and secured by the main unit. 2 basic ranges to choose from :0.1… 3.2A and 2.0… 63
Voltage unit (MCU2 only)
The voltage unit contains a three-phase voltage measuring transformer and electronics for auxiliary power supply 2(UAuxz). It is connected to the substrate via a flat cable and is mounted side-by-side with the MCU main unit on a drawer mounting track.
Voltage unit detection is performed by using internal code signaling as an automatic function.
2.3.2 Microcontroller shell material
The shell of the single chip microcomputer is made of 10% glass fiber polycarbonate material, the fire resistance of the material is UL94V-0, and the material does not contain halogen.
Housing color is RAL 7012.
