IS220PRTDH1B RTD input pack/Resistance temperature device
The IS220PRTDH1B is an RTD input package manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe family of distributed control systems. The Resistance Temperature Device (RTD) Input (PRTD) package connects one or two I/O Ethernet networks to the RTD input terminal board. The kit includes a processor board shared by all Mark VIe distributed I/O packages, and a capture board dedicated to thermocouple input functions.
IS220PRTDH1B Function Description
The PRTD package supports only simplex operations. The battery pack is powered by a three-pin power input and a DC-37 pin connector that connects directly to the associated patch board connector. Dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors are used for output. LED indicators provide visual diagnosis. The I/O packet can handle up to 8 RTD inputs, and the TRTD terminal board can handle up to 16 RTD inputs.

The I/O packet can handle up to 8 RTD inputs, and the TRTD terminal board can handle up to 16 RTD inputs.
compatibility
The number of I/O packets used in the signal path is called the control mode:
Simplex uses a single I/O packet and one or two network connections.
Dual uses two I/O packets and has one or two network interfaces.
TMR uses three I/O packets, each with a network connection.
The current isolation of the TRD input circuit is provided by the PRTD. This requires changing the terminal board transient protection, which is available on TRTDH1D boards and TRTDH2D boards. The H1D version of the board includes filtering capabilities that are compatible with PRTD standard scan rates. When the fast scan rate of the PRTD is selected, the H2D version of the terminal board provides less filtering to achieve appropriate performance. If the PRTD is installed on an earlier version of the TRTD board, incompatibility will be reported, but no physical damage will occur.
IS220PRTDH1B processor features
The processor board is connected to a capture board dedicated to the I/O package or module function. When an input power supply is applied, the soft start circuit increases the available voltage on the processor board.
The local power supply is turned on one by one, and the processor reset is disabled. After completing the self-check routine, the processor loads application code from flash that is specific to the type of I/O package or module. The application code reads the board ID information to ensure that the application code, acquisition board, and terminal board are correctly matched.
When the match is good, the processor tries to establish Ethernet communication, starting with a network address request. The address request uses the industry-standard Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and the unique identification of the terminal board.
After Ethernet initialization, the processor programs the onboard logic, runs the application, and allows the acquisition board to start running. The processor application code contains all the logic needed for an I/O packet to run from one or two Ethernet inputs. When two Ethernet inputs are used, both network paths are always active.
A failure of either network will not affect the operation of I/O packets or modules, and the failure will be indicated by the working network connection. This configuration is more fault-tolerant than traditional hot backup systems, which only use the second port if the primary port fails.
The Ethernet port on the processor automatically negotiates between 10 MB/s and 100 MB/s speeds and between half-duplex and full-duplex operations.
Automatic reconfiguration
The automatic reconfiguration feature allows operators to replace I/O packets without having to manually reconfigure each packet or module. When the controller detects that an I/O package with a different configuration is started and enables automatic reconfiguration, the reconfiguration file is automatically downloaded from the controller to the I/O package.
Boot load, base load, firmware, and parameters will all be reconfigured. Unless it already has the latest version, each I/O packet is updated to the current configuration that matches the configuration used by the controller.
Analog input hardware
The RTD terminal board provides eight three-wire RTD inputs for the PRTD input board. Each RTD can be grounded or ungrounded, receiving 10 mA DC multiplexed (non-continuous) excitation current from the battery pack. The eight RTDS have a maximum bidirectional cable resistance of 15 and can be placed up to 300 m (984 ft) from the turbine I/O cabinet. The battery pack’s A/D converter samples each signal and excitation current four times per second in normal mode and 25 times per second in fast mode, with time sampling intervals dependent on the frequency of the power system.
