The Emerson/MOTOROLA MVME162 is a dual-height VME module with the MC68LC040 or optional MC68040 microprocessor. The MC68040 microprocessor has a floating-point coprocessor; the MC68LC040 does not. The MVME162 has 1MB, 4MB or 8MB parity-protected DRAM; 512KB SRAM (with spare battery); TOD clock (with spare battery); An optional LAN Ethernet transceiver interface with DMA, two serial ports (EIA-232-D and EIA-232-D/EIA-530); 6 tick timers with watchdog timer; Optional SCSI bus interface with DMA; VMEbus interface (local bus to VMEbus/VMEbus to local bus, with A16/A24/A32, D8/D16/D32 bus width and VMEbus system controller).

Technical features:
The module can communicate with automatic transfer switches, engines and generators to control start-up, operation, alarm and monitoring activities.
It can monitor and control up to five separate generators at the same time and has parallel capability.
In the system configuration, it can be set to a redundant configuration or a parallel configuration to meet different power requirements.

Example system configuration (redundant configuration) :
When the main power supply is lost or degraded and the generator set (A) fails during operation, the automatic transfer switch sends a signal to the HMI panel to start the generator set (B) and the redundant generator set (C).
The HMI panel monitors the operation of the main generator set and runs them in parallel with the system.
When the main power supply is restored, the automatic transfer switch disconnects the generator set and reconnects it to the main grid.
