Customers who want to make technical updates for their applications while maintaining backward compatibility with their existing VMEbus infrastructure can upgrade to the MVME5500 series and take advantage of enhanced performance features.

The MVME5500 is powered by an MPC7457 processor operating at 1 GHz, making it ideal for data-intensive applications. The MVME5500 offers more than just better processor performance; It also provides balanced performance for processors, memory, dual independent local buses, and I/O subsystems.

MVME5500

The powerful Marvell system controller supports 133 MHz host bus and 133 MHz SDRAM memory bus, which perfectly matches the high-speed processor. To match system I/O with outstanding processor performance, the MVME5500 offers dual 64-bit 33/66 MHz PCI buses. Each PCI bus has a PMC site that supports cards running at 33 or 66 MHz. The Universe II VME interface and PMCspan connector are isolated from the PMC site on a dedicated 33 MHz PCI bus, so both PMC sites are capable of running 66 MHz.

The MVME5500 also offers a Gigabit Ethernet interface, a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface, and two serial ports. It all adds up to a well-balanced set of high-performance subsystems that deliver unmatched performance.

The MVME5500 CPU board is equipped with 1 GHz MPC7457 processor. The MPC7457 CPU can handle 1 MB L2 and 2 MB L3 cache, as well as the AltiVec™ vector processor capabilities of the ARTESYN Embedded Technologies G4 processor architecture. The MVME5500 offers 512 or 1024 MB ECC SDRAM (133 MHz front-end bus) and offers 10/100/1000BastTX Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100BaseTX fast Ethernet interfaces. 40MB flash memory is available for applications and operating systems.

The board provides 2 sites for the 64-bit /66 MHz PMC module. The MVME2600/2700 and MVME5100-compliant I/O pins are obtained on the P2 connector by using the PMC module IPMC761 or IPMC712 MVME5500 and can be used in combination with the MVME761 conversion module. The IPMC module provides one UW-SCSI, one parallel port, and four serial ports.

With the PMCspan module, up to 4 more 64-bit PMC sites can be assembled.
