Working principle
Silicon carbide (SiC) photodiodes are very sensitive to the longer wavelength components of ultraviolet light produced through a flame. This longer wavelength light can penetrate the oil mist well, so the silicon carbon-based sensor is more sensitive to the presence of flame. The flame sensor, which uses a silicon carbide photodiode, is manufactured by ITS Industrial Turbine Services and has been successfully used in a variety of gas turbine installations.
