Silicon carbide (sic) flame trackers significantly improve gas turbine performance while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. The photodiodes of the flame sensor can be used in a variety of gas turbines and are designed for multiple fuels, low nox burners and steam injection. Reliable turbine operation for steam injection applications requires the sensitivity provided by the flame tracker.

The flame trackers feature SiC photodiodes that are highly sensitive to longer ultraviolet wavelengths that easily penetrate the fog of fuel and steam. This has advantages over typical flame sensors that are only sensitive to short ultraviolet wavelengths. In addition, SiC sensors have an analog output with a very wide dynamic range and fast response time. These features provide the ability to quickly report flame status in less than 25 milliseconds.
