The National Instruments SCXI-1100 is a 32-channel analog input module designed for the SCXI platform for signal conditioning, including millivolt, volt and current signals. All channels of the module are multiplexed into one channel that controls the DAQ device, enabling cost-effective signal conditioning by providing a 4 Hz low-pass filter with multiple gain ranges and jumper selection. The SCXI-1100 module is equipped with a shielded terminal block with screw terminals for easy connection of signals, and a temperature sensor is integrated into the terminal block for cold end compensation of the thermocouple. The cold end reference can be multiplexed with 32 channels on the SCXI-1100 or connected to different channels on the data acquisition board via jumpers.

The physical dimensions of the SCXI-1100 module are 1.2 x 6.8 x 8.0 inches and the recommended operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C. It has a 96-pin male DIN C front connector and a 50-pin male ribbon cable rear connector with a maximum operating voltage of ±10 V for DC-coupled devices. In addition, the module can be used with a variety of terminal blocks, including rack mounts, thermocouple plugs, screw terminals, BNC connectors, DIN rail mounts, welded pins, and front mount terminal blocks. The SCXI-1100 can be used with the following National Instruments terminal blocks: SCXI-1300, SCXI-1303, SCXI-1308, BCN-2095, TC-2095, TBX-1303, TBX-96, and SCXI-1310.

Although National Instruments has announced the discontinuation of the SCXI-1100, the module is still available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves. In addition, the SCXI-1100 can be calibrated to ensure measurement accuracy. Apex Waves offers high quality NIST-approved calibration services with an average delivery time of 1 to 2 weeks. When ordering the SCXI-1100, users also have the option of basic (unapproved) internal calibration to be calibrated to manufacturer specifications prior to shipment.

Detailed specifications for the SCXI-1100, including analog input characteristics, input signal range, input damage level, stability, power requirements, physical size, environmental specifications, etc., are detailed technical documentation. For example, the analog input portion of the SCXI-1100 has 32 differential channels with an input signal range of ±100 mV (gain =100) or ±10 V (gain =1) and an input damage level of ±42 VDC when powered on and ±27 VDC when powered off.

In addition, the installation and use of the SCXI-1100 module requires some basic tools, such as screwdrivers, needle-nose pliers, cable cutters, and cable strippers. When connecting a signal cable to a terminal block, follow certain procedures, including removing the top cover, loosening and removing strain release screws, guiding the signal cable through a strain release opening, stripping off the insulation layer of the signal cable, inserting the stripped end of the cable into the screw terminal and tightening it with a screwdriver.
