The SCXI-1102C from National Instruments (NI) is a voltage input module with 32 differential analog input channels, a maximum operating voltage of ±10V, and a recommended warm-up time of 20 minutes. The module is designed for signal conditioning of thermocouples, low bandwidth voltage and millivolt sources, 4 to 20mA current sources, and 0 to 20mA process current sources. The SCXI-1102C can perform current input, thermistor, voltage input, RTD (resistance temperature detector) and thermocouple measurements.

The SCXI-1102C module has a three-pole low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 10kHz. In addition, the gain/input range of the module is a software-configurable setting that allows the user to select the right magnification to take full advantage of the range of the E/M series DAQ (Data Acquisition) instruments. The user can choose a gain of 1 or 100 per channel depending on the input signal voltage range and the full scale limit of the SCXI-1102C output.

When using the NI-DAQmx software, the user can configure software Settings such as sensor type and gain/input signal range, which can be done through functions, tasks in the user application, or global channels using the Measurement and Automation Browser (MAX) tool. It is important to note that not all software-configurable Settings can be configured both ways.

The SCXI-1102C module measures 1.2 x 6.8 x 8.0 inches and weighs 24.6 ounces. Its recommended operating temperature range is 0 to 50°C, storage temperature range is -20 to 70°C, and non-condensing humidity range is 10 to 90% RH. Although National Instruments has declared the SCXI-1102C obsolete, the module is still available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.

In addition, the SCXI-1102C module can be calibrated, and most components are recommended to be calibrated annually or biennially to ensure accuracy. Apex Waves offers calibration options, including high quality NIST-approved calibration through third parties, with an average delivery time of 1 to 2 weeks.

For signal conditioning, the input characteristics of the SCXI-1102C module include DC input coupling, maximum operating voltage, and overvoltage protection. The module also has transfer characteristics such as bias error and gain error, as well as nonlinear and amplifier characteristics such as input impedance and system noise.

For terminal blocks that need to be used with SCXI-1102C, a variety of options are available, such as SCXI-1300, SCXI-1303, SCXI-1308, TBX-1303, TBX-96, SCXI-1310, etc., which have different characteristics. Such as cold end compensation sensor compatibility, isothermal construction, pluggable ground references, etc. These terminal blocks are suitable for different measurement applications and can provide a high impedance path to ensure that the system can work reliably with floating or grounded thermocouples.
