The storage and forwarding mechanism is that each port of the switch is allocated to a certain buffer (memory space, generally 64k), the data after entering the switch to read the target MAC address, with the MAC address table to understand the forwarding relationship, the data will be stored in the buffer of this port until the data fills the buffer and then forwards all the data to the destination at once. During the time the data is stored in the buffer, the switch performs a simple validation on the data, and if the wrong data is found at this time, it is not forwarded to the destination, but is discarded here. Of course, this method can provide better data forwarding quality, but the relative forwarding time will be longer than the direct exchange. Fragmentation isolation is also known as improved straight-through switching, taking advantage of the advantages of straight-through is that the forwarding delay is small, and the length of each data frame is checked. In principle, each Ethernet frame cannot be smaller than 64 bytes and larger than 1518 bytes. If the switch detects frames smaller than 64 bytes or larger than 1518 bytes, it considers them to be “incomplete” or “very long” frames and will discard them before forwarding. This method combines the advantages of straight-through switching and store-and-forward, and many high-speed switching opportunities are used, but there is no store-and-forward method to gain popularity.
