The VMIC family of products was originally manufactured and developed by General Electric’s Automated Industrial Production division and later acquired by Abaco Systems. The functional range of these devices includes an analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog converter board, a central processing unit, and a set of analog or digital input and output modules. The VMIVME-7698-146 module is built as a single board computer.

The VMIVME-7698-146 device is equipped with a Celeron single-socket Socket 370 processor. It is designed with an operating system capable of supporting Windows NT and Windows 2000 as well as Linux, VxWorks, QNX and Solaris.

The VMIVME-7698-146 module is equipped with a range of special features for embedded applications. Up to 512 megabytes of IDE CompactFlash is available (optional). There are three programmable 16-bit timers with 32 KB of battery backup SRAM. This unit supports remote Ethernet boot and comes with integrated software optional watchdog timer (with reset function)

The VMIVME-7698-146 supports connecting VMEbus P2 to an HD/ floppy disk drive. There is a PMC extension site with VMEbus P2 input and output. Support PC MIP extended sites and VME64 mode (A32 / / D32 A24 / D16 / D08 / MBLT64 / BLT32).

VME/VME64 single-board computers based on the VMIC VMIVME-7698 single-slot Celeron Slot 370 processor feature an Intel Celeron processor with MMX™. Celeron processors have 32-bit addressing and 64-bit data buses. The onboard DRAM is connected to the VMEbus via dual ports. The system and video BIOS are provided in reprogrammable flash memory. The VMIVME-7698 provides users with three 82C54-compatible 16-bit timers (in addition to the system timer). These timers are mapped in the I/O space and are fully programmed by software.
